Chicago Street Portraits and Candids

Two things I love to do in Chicago are street photography and putting on pounds eating deep dish pizza.  Lots of hipsters are walking around with tattoos. I took the three portraits at Westfest, a street festival held about two miles West of downtown in July 2009. Forget about it in the winter!

  1. I am enjoying your work and your travels. I too visit many places in the USA and have started documenting my trips. Did not know I would enjoy street photography and meeting strangers as much.

    • I would like to do more street photography at home, but in the summer the heat tends to clear the street.

  2. Really fine portraits Ron!

  3. Love the tattoos and now I want a bigger one myself… Have to sell some paintings first before doing that… ;)

    • What sort of design do you want?

      September 4, 2013 at 9:27 am

      • I’m not quite sure yet, but it’s going to be something like a branch of a rosebush in black and purple with a little white and red….

        • Interesting…

        • But maybe I want to take a piece of my art with me and see if they can make a nice tattoo of it…

          September 4, 2013 at 12:13 pm

        • That is a good idea.

          September 4, 2013 at 1:40 pm

        • I only hope they can use it for a tattoo. First I have to find a piece I like enough for the rest of my life.
          I will let you know!

  4. I was thinking of the winter too – heck no! How do you get the crystal clean focus?

    September 4, 2013 at 9:52 am

    • Focus, it isn’t perfect always. I use the single point mode of autofocus and then reframe. You have to keep the shutter button half pressed or use an af-lock button if there is one. AF in it’s normal mode just locks onto the closest thing, and that might not be what you want.

      • I see, need to check those settings then. I need a course on cameras!

  6. Sure enough…forget about any spot on the Great Lakes in the Winter!

    • Robert, you have been finding a trove of derelict buildings.

      September 4, 2013 at 1:39 pm

      • Thanks for looking at my offering…the only reason there are so many is that the cost of remediation (asbestos/lead) is so high. Got to get them before they are gone – mostly due to arson;-(

        • Things get fenced off pretty quick around here.

          September 4, 2013 at 3:18 pm

        • Here as well, but someone before me has always made a path in – my saying is “follow the tracks, get in around the back” – My policy is to NOT break in…I only enter.

          September 4, 2013 at 3:21 pm

        • Only enter, LOL.
