Interlaken and Beyond

Blue Tunnel

Blue Tunnel

Interlaken is high in the Swiss Alps surrounded by dramatic mountains.  The main attraction is the Jungfrau, a cog railway which goes up into the mountains.  Some of these images were shot in town, others are from the Jungfrau trip.  Blue Tunnel was captured inside the Jungfrau complex.  Some say the rocks in Doom Castle (the observatory) look a bit strange.

  1. Great photos!!
Im not sure just how close the swedish translation would be to my parent’s dutch native language but, if im not mistaken ‘jungfrau’ translates to ‘young lady’ or ‘maiden’ in english!

    • Thank you for stopping by, that translation sounds about right.

    • Some of the stuff up the mountain is surreal, thank you for looking.

  4. As always I like the perspective/architectural picture best, the one of the tunnel. Really stunning.

    • Denise, I was lucky to get that without crowds of tourists. It is an unusual place. Thank you.

  8. Thank you for liking “Offbeat Thanksgiving Photos.” I usually find beautiful and interesting photos whenever I visit your website, and today I have done that again. My favorite photos in this gallery are the Blue Tunnel and St. Beatus Caves. I like the colors and the textures in these photos, and the St. Beatus Caves do have a surreal quality to them. However, I would not want to be stuck in the Blue Tunnel if the power went out. I hope you had a good Thanksgiving and that you enjoy the rest of the holiday season. :)

    • Thank you. If the power went out in Blue Tunnel it would be a big problem because the place is literally freezing cold.

      • Darkness and freezing cold . . . ugh! That is a combination that I do not like to experience. Now I really want to stay away from that tunnel. :)
