Fiji is the Sky

Golden Canyons of the Pacific

Golden Canyons of the Pacific

Fiji is all about the sky. First one must spend many hours in the sky to get there from nearly anywhere except Australia. Those flights yielded some wonderful sunsets in the clouds. Travel between the islands is by light aircraft so I captured landscapes from the sky. On the ground or the sea clouds form in a most beautiful way. I did some of the best scuba diving ever there, but I don’t shoot under water. The dive guides are seated facing the camera in the group of Fijians.

After a stop in Honolulu and changing planes in Guam, we landed in Fiji and were picked up at the airport in Nadi for a three hour drive to our hotel.  After a few days there we returned to Nadi and flew to the remote island of Taveuni for another week of diving.   To get home we had to reverse the process.  The tickets were a steal at $1,100.  I don’t think I could get there for twice the price today.

  15. Thank you for liking “Mystery of the Missing Posts.” Your aerial and landscape shots of Fiji are wonderful. The light, color (even the shades of gray in the black-and-white photo), and textures in these photographs are captivating. Once again I enjoyed looking at your excellent work! :)

    • Fiji is in your corner of the rock. I travel a lot, but got back into photography only 5 years ago. Actually, some of my favorite photographs are taken in Houston and nearby.

What can i say that you don’t already know, you are an amazing photographer! Although I enjoy your people shots, personally I prefer landscapes as they transport me to a different place! And I wonder why you don’t do underwater photography. Seems like that would be a natural for you.

    July 18, 2013 at 9:48 am

    • Thank you RMW. I no longer dive enough to justify the investment in gear.

  35. I was in Fiji once, for a short layover, on my way from L.A. to Australia. We landed super early in the morning, while it was still dark, and as the sun rose in the airport waiting lounge it unveiled the gorgeous landscape of the islands. I was only able to see the view from the airport, which was gorgeous enough, and now your beautiful photographs confirm my belief that I simply must go back… :)

    July 29, 2013 at 12:49 pm

    • Thank you. Sometimes when I look at these photographs I can hardly believe that I was fortunate enough to visited that place.

    • Thank you Lauren. That was a real bucket list trip. The cost of going there now is prohibitive.

  45. Ron, Words escape me but your captured shots say it all! I would adore seeing more of your ‘work’ captures!
Only thing I take pause over for myself is that for 38 yrs of travel, I didn’t have a camera till now (and on a phone to boot) to capture the images now rusty in my mind. Thanks!

    October 13, 2013 at 2:22 pm

    • Cameras are cheap now. Nikon is still selling models that have been replaced at a deep discount.
