Flying from Houston to Maui makes for a long day because of the 5 hours gained.  Over the desert of the Southwestern US one views a rugged, mountainous, inhospitable landscape.  It almost looks like sandpaper.  Next is the much softer profile of the Big Island of Hawaii from the sky, viewed from the Kona side.  Land, jump into a rental car and head straight to the beach in Kihei for R&R and photography.  That was my day.  Two of these photos were previously published in black and white.

    • I was rather thinking, amazing what a wonderful Creator has made for our enjoyment.
If nothing else, that seems so much more poetic… among other things.

  3. Great Shots! Went to Maui on my honeymoon 28 years ago. Took my fathers camera and none of the pictures turned out(obviously I didn’t know how to use it). Would love to go back now that I know how to use a DSLR. Until then I will just look at your pics.

  4. Wonderful shots. Beaches have become my photographic playground since I left Washington state (cold, gray, clammy beaches) and moved to Costa Rica (warm, blue, roasty-toasty beaches). Glad I found your blog – or you found mine…whatever. I can always use photography pointers, and love to view other people’s work.
    On my Way…

  28. great images, images, i read a report today, one of the Hawaiian islands is the testing ground for the worst abuses by chemical giants, the use of the most dangerous pesticides in the world, and this is from the government, hope the practice doesn’t spread, we dont want to lose the beauty that exists…

    June 17, 2014 at 9:10 am

    • You are probably referring to Kauai. The county government has outlawed the practice, but there is a court battle over it.

      June 17, 2014 at 9:12 am

      • it’s something we keep in mind, as the saying goes, it spreads till it’s stopped, thanks for the comment
