These photos were captured at about 6:30 AM local time in the golden light of morning at a game reserve near Mossel Bay, South Africa. Range was about 10 meters and there were no barriers between me and the lions. After seeing Lions up close in their natural environment I have come to believe they are the most beautiful of all wild animals.

Big cats, little cats—the same way.
Thank you.
That’s his happy face lol!

Have to admit I’m a bit envious you were so close to such majestic creatures. Did you travel with a tour group to South Africa or on your own?
South Africa was a roll my own trip. I can’t hack group travel. I do have a friend in Cape Town who helped me plan it and allowed some couch surfing.
I especially love this post (and the next one !) because lions are, after monkeys, my 2nd favorite animals (and I’m a Leo !!!). I’ve been close to a lion once, in a zoo, and it really scared me, so congratulations to you for photographing, in such a beautiful way, these amazing creatures !
Thank you. More lion images to come in a few days.

You can Google this great soul… or read about him in my blog Love of a lion…

Lion porn!? Lol.
Probably…
Ron……….that lead in shot of the male lion is one of the most majestic things I have ever seen! What a thrill it must have been to be able to be where you could get a shot like that! Thanks for sharing and thanks for visiting my blog again.
I wasn’t far away, it was before 7 AM, my experience with shooting wildlife is very limited I had a cold and I am not a morning person. Having said that, I must have been extremely lucky.
I’ll have to post my video of goats mating–not quite as majestic! Great pics!
Thank you.
“Be gentle.”
Thank you.
Thanks for coming by my blog today. Of course, of the three great blog posts listed in the notification of your “like”, I had to choose “Lions Mating.” I’m a romance writer, after all. The hero in my work-in-progress has amber, leonine eyes, so of course this was important research.
What a thrill for you to have been able to capture this and thanks for all the technical details on the photography.
Thank you Nia.
Wonderful Blog
Thank you and come again.
