Volcanos National Park

Lava Landscape

Lava Landscape

This is a magical place where molten lava and poisonous gases spew forth from the ground. Nature is at its peak of fury here. The message is we are nothing. In minutes one passes from desolate inhospitable areas at altitude to lush rain forests and pacific beaches. The landscape is unreal often covered by lava flows.

      April 18, 2013 at 1:26 pm

      • I sure do get ideas!!! I’m going to look at those photos again when I’m going to make a new painting!

  3. Excellent set. Walking the lava tube must be an experience.

    April 18, 2013 at 1:39 pm

    • The entrance is in a rain forest. Lighting is by sodium vapor, so it looks best in black and white.

  7. Volcanoes get me thinking about forces larger than myself, and a sense of awe mixed with fear.

    Thanks for the photos

    April 18, 2013 at 3:58 pm

    • Volcanos are definitely about large scale forces. Thank you for commenting.

    April 18, 2013 at 4:30 pm

    • Thank you FRC. Where can you place Chloe that shows the scale of nature? There is somewhere, you will think of it.

  28. Love these photos! I definitely want to go to the Big Island – the only Hawaiian island I haven’t been to – but it will take some convincing to my daughters, who are scared of the active volcanos. I definitely won’t show them your post here :)

    April 26, 2013 at 5:54 pm

    • Janice, it’s not like the lava is going to jump out and swallow you. Thank you for commenting.
