Funnel Tunnel

The Funnel Tunnel

The Funnel Tunnel

The Funnel Tunnel is a massive public art project located in the 1900 block of Montrose in Houston, Texas. It was executed by artist Patrick Renner with aid from the Art League Houston. A search for the term “funnel tunnel” will yield some very strange results.

I will be back with more photographs from my recent Baltic trip later.

  1. I would love to see that in person, but I am all the way in GA. It’s nice pics, though!

  10. It is great to see public art work that really is fun and involves the community. Do you know what it was made of? It also looks like something that would be fun to photograph. Were you photographing it as the funnel was developed? I get to do this type of photography for my wife Jane Ingram Allen who does installations and curatorial projects that put us all over the world.

    • I only got to photograph the finished work. It has a steel frame and the exterior is painted wood strips, 1×2.

  11. What an extraordinary creation? It looks like it would be fun to funnel/tunnel through if it were allowed.

    • Navigating the interior of that work might be difficult. Thank you for your many comments and visits, G.

  14. The Funnel Tunnel looks great! Love all the colours in it.
How long will it be there?

    August 13, 2013 at 5:19 am

    • I don’t know how long it will last. It has a steel frame, but the wood exterior will fade after some time.

      • It looks really awesome and hope to see more pictures of it during the period it’s there…

  15. I love this new installation! I drove by last week and I really want to take a look at it at night. (Incidentally, The Heights just got named by CNN as one of the best big city neighborhoods in the country… what about Montrose with gems like this?!)

    • I like the Heights better myself. Thank you for stopping by. In the header there are menu buttons for Houston and Art Lovers, you might enjoy those.

    • That place isn’t far from my home, and I go over there at least once a month.

  18. Somehow I lost the B and W photo of the water and the storm clouds (You said you had been there twice and it was stormy and cool! I loved that photo. Can’t find it)…but this one scrolled down and I love its zaniness.
