People Watching in San Francisco

Street  photography is my favorite.  It is basically people watching with a camera.  Unfortunately, the trend is to prohibit it in Europe.

    • Modern times, it might come back with legal pot in Washington and Colorado, California probably isn’t far behind.

Good stuff! People often ask me where I would wear the crazy stuff I like online and I reply with a resounding, “anywhere I want to!” I’m glad to see I’m not the only one! :D

LOL You’re welcome. And I always try to have fun dressing up. It’s interesting to make people do a double take, seeing questioning looks on their faces, and maybe even get a smile or two out of them. :)

        • I like seeing girls in steampunk. You might check out photographer Nina Pak for her Victorian inspired fantasy scenes. The costumes are amazing.

I’ll be sure to do that. Steampunk is an awesome sub-culture. We only recently got involved though I’ve known about it for a few years.

  3. Really nice series. West coast and east coast are so different. Your images really show the west coast style. Much more relaxed than the style on the east coast.

    • I happen to live on the third or Gulf coast. Talk about laid back. Jimmy Buffet slept here…

      • True, it’s been years since being on the west coast of Florida. Even in the 80’s the Palm Beach socks, wild shirts, pastel slacks in conflict with the rest of the clothing being worn. and wild shirts seemed to be over the top. Clothing that the snowbirds would never wear when they returned to there summer homes. lol

  6. SF is probably one of the best places to people watch. It’s too bad Europe wants to prohibit/restrict street photography.

    • It isn’t every country in Europe, but unfortunately the EC allows these restrictions.

  7. SF is the BEST for people-watching! Such a great variety of sights.
Will you please include more info on the restrictions in Europe? I was not aware…although I am not surprised

    • In France, Norway, Denmark, Germany, and Hungary you can’t publish a person’s photo without their permission. Same rule in Quebec Provence, Canada. There are some exceptions, but they are not meaningful.

      • Interesting…I guess it only matters if you get caught.
I’m of the thought that asking for permission before you get a shot reduces the authenticity of the shot. I have asked for permission after the fact (if the person notices me) and that usually works out in my favor. I’m trying to be better about meeting people and telling their story along with their photo. Of course, that isn’t always possible…

        • The restriction is on publication, not taking the picture, but that is my understanding, not legal advice.
