Sunset Dive

Sunset Dive

Sunset Dive and Cazadores were taken from a balcony at the Oasis, a popular Mexican restaurant on the shore of Lake Travis.  Cazadores is an excellent Tequila.  There was a draught that summer so the lake was about 60 feet below it’s normal level.  Some interesting people crossed my path in Austin on those hot late August days.   The girl with a T-Rex tattoo was photographed outside one of Austin’s many Mexican restaurants.  It took a considerable amount of begging to get her to pose.  The remaining images were shot on or near Sixth Street.  This area of Austin is famous for it’s many bars with cheap drinks and live music.  It’s the closest thing to Bourbon street anyone will ever find in Texas.

    • Thank you Robert. It is very popular in Mexico. A lot of the premium tequila brands seen in the US are not sold in Mexico. You can get it all down there, but it will be in a different bottle.

  5. A lot of derring-do on that dive, and especially at sunset when light and shadows are tricky. Fantastic shot.

      • He may be connected to a tether, but that’s a lot of derring-do. I rather have terra-firma under my feet. 🙂

        • He is made out of bronze, but most people think it is a man. Anyone diving from that exact location would be in a world of hurt, unless a net was set up to catch them.

        • I guess that explains the derring-do. 🙂

  11. What a great flash back I got seeing your fantastic picture ‘Sunset Dive’.
Yesterday I saw ‘Superman’ diving from Copenhagen Opera House meeting the water with the speed of 90 km an hour.
What’s the story behind ‘Sunset Dive’?
    All the best,
    Hanna

    • It was shot from the third floor of the famous Oasis restaurant overlooking Lake Travis outside Austin. The blue is how it looked right out of the camera, but the orange has been boosted. The diver is a bronze statue, but most people mistake it for a man.

  12. I was just THINKING about going to The Oasis, especially when we are in the longest days of summer. Sitting on the new and improved non-burned-down deck…but then I thought of the lake so low, and the high prices, and the iffy service. But still….

    • And the crowds, but still… Order a big plate of nachos and wash it down with a few beers. You will be fine after that.

If you look down the page (it might have to auto scroll) you can see what I was doing in Austin last month. This post dates back to 2009 although the photos are all new edits.
