Seattle Harbor and Abstracts

Alone on the Boardwalk

Alone on the Boardwalk

Seattle may have a reputation for months of overcast weather in the winter, but summer is beautiful with dramatic clouds and mild weather.  My travel advice for touring the harbor area is to head back towards downtown at mealtime.  Seattle is full of great restaurants, however the ones near the docks are touristy, expensive and mediocre.

For photographers doing Black and White conversions use lots of contrast and try the clarity slider if using ACR or Lightroom.  In the HSL panel of Lightroom reduce the luminescence of the blue channel to darken skies.  Avoid global use of the shadows and highlights sliders.  Apply these locally with the adjustment brush.

    • Thank you Robert. I wasn’t so lucky at Rainier or on the Olympic peninsula.

  7. Absolutely beautiful! My hometown of Burlington, VT has over 200 cloudy days every year… and imposing clouds like the ones in your photos are exactly what I’m missing here in Santiago, Chile. Phenomenal.

    • Thank you for making my day. I don’t make any money from photography, so all I get in return are the comments.
