Foggy Harbor

Foggy Harbor

This is mostly about street photography, but I thought I would show this offbeat coastal scene first.

    • Thank you Erica. That photo is the product of a mistake. I had intended to mount a zoom, but left the hotel with a 28mm wide angle attached. At first I thought the land was too small, but after reworking it to get the clouds to have some definition, it started to look like something.

      • Hahaha, nice one!
So this mistake turned out great I would say!!! 😉

  2. Hey Ron, and now for something completely different… I would like to nominate you for the sunshine award. I will post this in a few minutes if you would like to accept?

    • Thank you Danna. I don’t know if you saw the other response I gave, but that one was the product of having a different lens on the camera than I had planned.

  12. I’ve always wondered – do you need to get permission from the people on the street to take their photo? It’s something I would like to try out as I love those special moments that can be captured in the world around us. Are there any ‘rules’ about identifying people or anything like that? Thanks,

    • Search for something like “the photographer’s right”.

      March 28, 2013 at 5:35 pm

    • It is covered by two legal principles; Doctrine of Fair Use and Diminished Expectation of Privacy. Basically, if a thing (or person) is in public then they are allowing viewing (which includes photographs). It is what allows the paparazzi industry to operate as they do and drives celebrities crazy. There are news stories around right now about the Steven Tyler law they are trying to pass in Hawaii that might help clarify what is acceptable behavior.

      March 31, 2013 at 9:21 am

      • Thank you for the heads up on the Hawaii law. The rules in Texas are different. All it takes is lack of consent and an intent to gain sexual gratification. Nudity is not required. Privacy is usually not part of the test. Most cases filed are upskirts, but a few are pictures of underage girls from the “neck to the knees”. Details from some cases have been very vague. Nobody knows what they can and can’t do here.

I just checked, the Steven Tyler bill is stalled and unlikely to pass. It is opposed by the news media.

    April 21, 2013 at 4:58 pm

    • Yeah, a mistake. It takes time to learn how to shoot a wide angle prime.

      April 21, 2013 at 6:07 pm

      • I think the shot was absolutely fantastic!

    • That is very nice of you Kavita. Have a nice morning in your part of the world it is almost bedtime here.

      November 10, 2013 at 9:59 pm

      • Really Ron..what a diversity and variety we have in the world…in day and night and weather wise…it’s raining here today and cold at the start of summer….Have you captured rainy season in your camera much?

        November 10, 2013 at 11:33 pm

        • We don’t have a rainy season here. We usually get a lot of rain but it can come at any time. The summer does tend to be a bit dryer. The area has been experiencing below normal rainfall for the last six years. Some of the abstracts are the result of recent rain storms.
