I Awoke in Bilbao

A Still River in Bilbao

A Still River in Bilbao

This morning I awoke in Bilbao to perfect weather.  The sun was out and the air was still.  You might notice the most famous attraction Bilbao is AWOL.  I have photos of the Guggenheim and will post them later.  However, I managed to find a bunch of pipers, something you don’t expect here in the Basque country.

  4. I like the wind mills. Reminds me of Don Quixote, Holland, and cheap energy! And the plaza flowers are breath taking!

    • Thank you Jan. Wind Mills are not cheap energy. They get $6 billion in subsidies each year in the US to make them competitive.

    • I was planning on being in Bilbao, I was not planning on seeing pipers, who were Scotch and English.

  10. Thank you for liking “Hot Air Balloons” and “Mermaid.” Wonderful photos! 🙂 My favorite photo in this series is “A Still River in Bilbao” because of the perspective of the photo and the way the river bends to the left in the background. I also like “Guys in Ties” and “Pipers.” The men in “Guys in Ties” seem relaxed and look like they are enjoying walking together. The piper on the left and on the right seem to be having fun too, but the piper in the middle has this expression on his face that makes me wonder what he is thinking.

I enjoy seeing old-fashioned Dutch windmills, but I do not like seeing the new white ones. I also question their value as an energy source. While windmills, solar panels, and other sources of “green energy” are supposed to be good for the environment, I have read that they cannot produce enough energy to meet all of our energy needs. They may work on a house or a small building, but it would be too expensive and impractical to try to use them as the sole energy source for a city or other large area.

Your photos are stunning! I particularly like the buildings reflected on the water and “guys in ties” That one looks like a movie poster. Thanks for the like on my post. Best wishes! Melissa
