24 Photos in This Gallery

Those who follow this blog may have noticed it is not updated daily anymore.  Despite being followed by over 8,000 other bloggers, traffic is light.  My photography is also published at flickr under the Ron Scubadiver ID.  I have been averaging over 12,000 views per day on flickr with only 1,070 following.  Even when spending hours each day promoting this blog I was lucky to get 1,500 views per day on the average.  Unfortunately, the WordPress.com reader discourages people from visiting the individual blogs.

I will continue to post here on a sporadic basis.  The posts will often contain more images than before.  When I run out of the paltry 3 gigabytes of space they give here, old stuff will have to be deleted.

Thank you for your interest.

  1. I’m still here Ron. I agree though, the reader was ruined about a year or so ago and I really detest the sanitised white pages that you get to now instead of the wide and varied blogs themselves. I always put a more tag in to force the reader to enter my blog to read the posts but I should not have to do that because WordPress should not be discouraging diversity. When I get time I will migrate my blog onto my own website where I have better control. Lovely pictures as usual🙂

    • Your own site provides better control, but there is no community to feed into it. For now, flickr is the answer for me. My only fear is their rules could change with the change in ownership. Until late 2012 flickr would have deleted my blot for having street shots of pretty girls.

      • Yeah true, although in my case 90% of the 10-20K views (depending on how many posts I do) I get each month are from google searches. Mine is a specialised subject and I have never got that many hits from WordPress reader. Most people find my blog while searching for ‘how to do something’ relating to Land Rovers. A lot of them come via image searches too. However I use the reader to read other blogs and I find it awful. I much preferred the old reader from about 3-4 years ago!

        • I get few google lately. If I go to an event and rush to get the photos published here, I will get a lot of google hits, but I don’t feel like rushing anymore.

  3. I’ve truly enjoyed your photos very much, and maybe learned a thing or two.

WP continual tinkering with the UI and reader has discouraged any real reading and taking time to look at photos. They have cornered themselves into the mobile crowd who are into glancing over content. Regarding flickr, their rules are always changing. It is rather true they would have deleted you, calling your “pretty girl on the street” photos as restricted content. But, I have read flickr and 500px have deleted user accounts with safe content for liking too many photos in an hour. I don’t know if their censors or algorithm have become more prudish.

    • When Melisa Mayer came in policies changed, the paid moderators were fired, and things loosened up a lot. I like a lot of photos, will that get me deleted. I doubt it. 500px sucks because other users can gang up on you with negative ratings. That happened to me.

      • That’s the one part of 500px I could not understand, the negative rating. Melisa Mayer has said she intends to stay to run the Yahoo for Verizon, but it’s not easy moving from the #1 slot to #2.

        • I don’t think Mayer will be staying at Yahoo that long.

  6. Is the number of views the golden measure though? Quality speaks for itself. The audience may be small but appreciative. I like the diversity and effort that goes into your work.

  8. Among the pursuits the Spaniards do best, the visual arts, architecture and design are among them…in my humble opinion. Thanks Ron.
